Studio

Since graduating from art school in 2006, Katrina has maintained a consistent studio practice crucial to the development of her work. Katrina has moved across various studios in Wollongong where she has had the freedom to keep pushing her work and honing her skills. Building up a practice of experimentation of her visual language without pressure from galleries, social media or happenings in the art world has been an integral part of the process. For about 10 years after graduating, Katrina solidly produced work - some of which was seen locally around Wollongong and Sydney, but much of the work remained in the studio, unseen, reworked and constantly developed. Katrina’s goal was always to push the work, to make it better and to tell stories. The act of painting and drawing has always been innate, regardless of sales or shows.

Katrina’s studio practice has varied over the years in size, space and energy. From humble beginnings, painting and drawing in any space she could find, to garage hopping from friends houses, to a grungy old motorbike shop in the heart of Wollongong in a shared studio named Bunkershed. When forced to move out of Bunkershed, due to scheduled demolition, Katrina moved studios to the back room of a soon to be demolished house. Now in her present studio; an over-sized double garage with stunning views of the Illawarra Escarpment. It is here that Katrina shed her timid mark making and finally made the leap to show her paintings to the rest of the world.
